News / Holly’s artwork commended
A PRIMARY school pupil from Aith has been commended for her Shetland-inspired entry in the John Byrne National Drawing Competition – beating thousands of other entries to a place in the top 30.
Holly Irvine, who is in primary six, was one of 27 runners-up to be commended for their artwork.
The 11 year old pupil’s drawing, of an old crofthouse with a beach down below it, will now be shown at a special exhibition in the Paisley Museum and Art Gallery.
Holly said she was “really excited” when her school teacher informed her that the drawing had been successful.
Byrne, whose competition began last year in an effort to raise the profile and inspire people from primary four up to secondary three to get creative, offered his congratulations to the successful entrants.
“The young people in our country never cease to amaze me with their artistic skills and extraordinary talent,” he said, “and that has come through in this year’s entries.
“The standard of work has been fantastic and I hope that the competition has inspired many of the young entrants to continue to enjoy art and draw more.”
