A YOUNG Quarff driver who called the police out to help free her car from the snow was arrested for drink driving, Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.
Judith Priest, who lives at Seasgair, admitted driving on Lerwick’s South Road on 21 November while more than three times the alcohol limit.
The court heard how the 18 year old social care worker returned to her car following a night of drinking after finding herself alone in the snow.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said she only drove a “short distance” before her wheels began spinning, after which she summoned the police who breathalysed her.
Sheriff Philip Mann banned her from driving for one year and fined her £500.
Meanwhile Laurence Paton, from Burra, lost his licence for a year and was fined £400 for drink driving after leaving Sumburgh Airport on 30 November.
The 41 year old, of Hulsidale, Hamnavoe, drove while nearly twice the alcohol limit on the A970 between Sumburgh and the Bigton junction at Channerwick.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had been drinking in the airport lounge and wrongly “assumed he would have been okay” to drive.
And a 28 year old woman from Lerwick will face trial on 7 January after pleading not guilty to possessing heroin at Lerwick’s NorthLink ferry terminal earlier this year.
Jayden Patterson, of 11 Nordavatn, is accused of carrying the Class A drug at the Holmsgarth terminal on 2 May.
