A SHETLANDER who has performed stand-up in New York and Amsterdam is to hold improvisational comedy classes in Lerwick.
Marjolein Robertson will lead a series of six lessons from November to January, with a ‘graduation show’ planned for the public at the Lerwick Legion on Friday 22 January.
Marjolein recently completed an intensive improv course in New York City with the Upright Citizens Brigade.
She also undertook an eight-week course in stand-up in Amsterdam last year, while she has also performed comedy and storytelling elsewhere in Holland and in Edinburgh.
Marjolein will hold her classes at the Lerwick Legion and she hopes to ultimately form a regular stand-up night in the isles.
“There is a real appreciation for comedy in Shetland, which is apparent through the great attendances and sell-out shows whenever comedians come to town,” she said.
“Folk here are also incredibly quick-witted and keen to tell a story.
“I believe a regular comedy night is missing in Shetland, and what I would love to do is set up a monthly event with a local group performing improv sketches with room for stand-up as well.”
