News / Treacherous roads as heavy snow falls
HEAVY snowfall across parts of Shetland on Saturday caused treacherous driving conditions, with some vehicles getting stuck or coming off the road.
There have been reports locally of vehicles, including buses and lorries, getting stuck while travelling uphill on the A970 heading north just outside of Lerwick.
Some cars have come off the road elsewhere in Shetland, such as Aith, but police said nothing major had been reported to them.
Others were forced into cutting their trips short and turning back to go home because of the poor road conditions.

Council gritters have been deployed in an effort to counter the slippy roads.
The Met Office meanwhile has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and wind for Shetland and Orkney that will run until 6pm on Saturday.
The first snow fell on Friday evening just hours after Storm Gertrude brought gusts of 105mph to the isles.
