Letters / SIC’s committed to tunnels

In response to the debate on tunnels in your pages:

The current work going on in relation to ferries is targeted at finding ways to reduce the cost of the service. This is essential in the current situation where the council’s focus is on reducing its expenditure.

However the council is still committed to the longer term aim of delivering a programme of fixed links.

Over the next few weeks we will be undertaking a piece of work looking at how tunnels might be funded, and this will be reported to the council either at the next meeting of the development committee in September, or the one after that.

At this meeting the council will consider the available courses of action, and take a decision on the next stage of the fixed links strategy.

I hope this clarifies matters for your readers.
